World hotel of the month

Looking for the perfect honeymoon destination? A brand new resort in the Maldives could well be it. Situated on the tropical island of Dhidhoofinolhu, the deluxe Diva Resort & Spa opens its doors to lucky holidaymakers this month, although things are set to get even more luxurious in September when more attractions are introduced.

So what makes Diva so idyllic? Well, there's the island itself for starters: it's among the largest of the Maldives, boasting lush tropical vegetation running alongside 4km of white sandy beaches. Dhidhoofinolhu is surrounded by an amazing sheltered lagoon, full of multicoloured tropical marine life.

The five-star resort offers a variety of gorgeous accommodation, ranging from junior suites to beach pool villas. And in case you were wondering, each "beach pool villa" features direct beach access and a private garden with its own pool.

With that in mind, chances are you may not want to leave your villa very often - so 24-hour room service is available. But just in case you do want to venture beyond your personal paradise every now and then, there are two restaurants and three bars to choose from. Senses specialises in spicy cuisine inspired by North African, Lebanese and Indian dishes - while spectacular shell-shaped eatery Noo offers an international menu.

More restaurants and bars are planned for later in the year - but if you're lucky enough to stay at Diva before that, rest assured you won't be visiting a building site. The whole transition is being very carefully managed to ensure it has no impact on guests in the meantime.

Beyond eating, drinking and relaxing, however, it's worth knowing that Diva's boathouse is the gateway to the most beautiful dive sites in the Maldives where parrotfish, rays, clownfish and whale sharks abound. You can also try plenty of other water sports including jet-skiing, waterskiing or rubber-ring rides. And - as with all the best resorts - there's a luxury spa, too.
