Spa of the month
Just thinking about this month's must-visit spa is making our mouths water. The reason? The five-star Intercontinental Berchtesgaden hotel in Bavaria has just unveiled Europe's first oh-so-heavenly Chocolate Suite inside its mountain spa - the brainchild of spa and recreation director Peter Droesell.
Want a taster of what's in store? Lie on a chocolate-themed treatment table where you'll be pampered with a sumptuous Choco-experience ritual. This includes a body peel with dark chocolate flakes; a body coat with hot chocolate sauce and cocoa butter, cream and olive oil; and a massage with sweet orange oil and chocolate aroma or flavoured espresso truffle oil.
And yes, everything used in the treatment is edible - with the exception of the truffle oil. Oh, and as an extra present, guests are given homemade pralines, chocolate sticks and cake to take away. This definitely sounds like our kind of spa!
The hour-long treatment costs 195 euro (around £147) - but we can guarantee you won't need to splash out much money on dinner afterwards.
When you're not being smothered in chocolate, you can make the most of the spa's other amenities, including two heated pools, a Bavarian sauna, alpine herbal sauna, steam room, ice fountain, relaxation room and meditation lounge.
Elsewhere in the hotel (if you are feeling hungry), Michelin-starred restaurant Le Ciel serves contemporary French cuisine - while the open kitchen at 3'60º offers diners a sneaky peek at the international dishes being prepared by top chefs. And the Bavarian-style Schalander restaurant offers local specialities cooked on a traditionally tiled stove.
But it's not all about eating and relaxing. While you're here, you should also take time out to explore the stunning alpine scenery - or pay a visit to nearby Salzburg, a buzzing, beautiful town.
Rooms start from 275 euro (around £185) per night. For more information, go to www.berchtesgaden.intercontinental.com.
