Bar director Claudio Grisorio has been causing a stir at the deVigne Bar in London's Mandeville Hotel, thanks to his ever-growing and ever-inventive cocktail list. In fact, the mixing maestro has pledged to add three new signature cocktails to the bar menu every month, with the help of suggestions from his creative clientele.
Born in fashionable Milan, Claudio has spent most of his adult life working in bars - and his family still runs two of the oldest and most celebrated cafe-bars in the city's Brera district. He spent six years working in the legendary American Bar at London's Savoy Hotel, before moving to stylish eatery One Aldwych, where his groundbreaking style of mixology and innovative use of ingredients such as vegetables, spices, exotic fruits and infusions gained him loyal customers.
A stint in private clubs followed but now he's thrilled to be back in the hotel world, and demonstrating his skills to a grateful new audience. But you don't have to take a trip to London to savour one of Claudio's creations: here's how to mix his brand new Millionaire cocktail at home ... Who wants to drink a Millionaire? We do!
Millionaire cocktail
Glass: Martini
Garnish: Fresh mint leaf
Ingredients (makes one cocktail)
50ml rose vodka; 50ml puréed fresh strawberries; 2 fresh mint leaves; splash of lime juice
Method
1. Mash the mint, strawberries and lime together.
2. Add the vodka and shake over ice.
3. Strain into a martini glass, and garnish with a fresh mint leaf.
