Get the celebrity look

At 47, Kristin Scott Thomas is several decades older than her The Other Boleyn Girl co-stars, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman - and yet she still possesses a practically flawless, natural beauty that women of all ages dream of emulating.

Her trademark look? 'It's the classic English rose - a pale, peachy, glowing complexion with delicate rosy cheeks,' says celebrity make-up artist Jane Bradley. 'Make-up is minimal: to get this look just right, you have to focus on getting your complexion in tip-top condition by drinking plenty of water, and adhering to a strict skincare regime. That way you can get away with only a little powder or sheer foundation.'

First things first: hide any redness or blemishes by concentrating concealer around the under-eye area and nose. Try Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage (£18; www.spacenk.co.uk). Follow with a light covering of foundation, then apply soft pink blusher to the apples of the cheeks.

'The cheeks should look like you've just pinched them,' says Jane. 'When we age, the skin's pigment slowly fades away so we lose that youthful glow. You can remedy this by putting back what nature has taken away with clever use of blusher!'

For eyes? Use a nude primer such as Benefit FY... Eye! (£17; www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk) to eliminate redness from the eyelids. 'Avoid pale, shimmering pink and blue shadows as these have an ageing effect on mature skin,' says Jane. 'Instead, opt for natural earth tones or lilac.' Next, apply a couple of coats of mascara. 'This helps open up tired eyes,' explains Jane. 'You can also wear a little white or flesh-tone pencil on the inner rim.'

Finally, choose a raspberry-coloured lipstick and rub it into the lips or blot off the excess so the effect remains natural. And there you have it: a very simple but stunningly effective look!
