Get the celebrity look
She's a 31-year-old mum with a hectic Hollywood lifestyle - but Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel still manages to look, well, as fresh as a daisy. So how does she do it?
Anna's typical style, both on and off-screen, is perfect skin, understated eye make-up and pillar-box red lipstick. But is this glamorous look too full-on for daytime? 'Actually, red lips can be worn for both day and evening without looking dated or overdone,' says celebrity make-up artist Jane Bradley. 'The trick is to keep the rest of the face simple.'
'Keep foundation and eye shadow to a minimum, but make sure you've got a decent black mascara to hand,' Jane continues. 'For daytime, apply a little concealer to any problem areas, then lightly powder with a large, soft brush. I love Bobbi Brown's Face Blender Brush (£27.99; www.bobbibrown.co.uk): it's domed and slightly pointed, so it can be used for contouring.'
Next, Jane suggests adding a little foundation or concealer to the eyelids to erase any redness. 'This brightens the eyes and makes you look rested and more youthful,' she explains. 'Next, try contouring under the cheek bones with a matt bronzing powder such as BeneFit Hoola (£22.50; www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk). This adds dimension to the face.
Next, curl your lashes and apply a few coats of black mascara. Comb through the brows, and add a little clear brow gel to keep them in place.
And now for the lips ... 'Gently line them in a neutral shade of lip pencil with light, feathery strokes,' says Jane. 'Next, apply your red lipstick using a lip brush to ensure you get right into the corners of your mouth to maximise size and shape. Remember, dark shades can make thin lips appear even thinner - so be careful when selecting your colour. Pat your lips with your finger to remove any excess: if they feel dry, use lip balm rather than lipstick for a dewy finish.' The result? A glamorous but wearable look that Ms Friel would be proud of.
