The new Golf Estate boasts the largest load space of any Golf to date. Even with five people on board it can carry generous amounts of luggage (505 litres), but fold the rear seats flat and that increases to an enormous 1,550 litres. The low loading boot with its wide tailgate makes it easy to lift in bulky things like grow bags or golf clubs, while the flat-load floor and the versatile split folding rear seats give you even more options.

Extra-large baggage can be fitted on the roof rails and the optional load-through feature (standard on SE) means you can fit in really long items. Plenty of handy storage compartments, plus a useful luggage cover, ensure everything will stay neatly in place. So whether you're visiting the garden centre, off to play a round of golf, or packing for your holiday, you can fit it all in, smartly and easily.

As with the hatchback, the Golf Estate's standard equipment is generous. It includes:

Moving up the range, the SE adds 16'' alloy wheels, cruise control and front comfort seats. The Sportline gains 17'' alloy wheels, sports seats and suspension, multi-function steering wheel and rear tinted windows. Desirable options include a DVD navigation/radio system and electric sunroof.

All the safety you demand

A line-up of intelligent safety systems has helped the Golf gain the full 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests. All Golf Estates benefit from ABS with Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) and an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) to help control the car in critical driving situations. Added protection is offered by six airbags and whiplash-optimised head restraints for driver and front passenger.
